Team Columbia-HTC named for Aussie tour
11:20 AEST Fri Oct 30 2009

Team Columbia-HTC will field a strong line-up for the 2010 Tour Down Under, the outfit the first to reveal its riders for the opening event on the international cycling calendar.

Race director Mike Turtur said on Friday he was pleased to see two previous winners (Andre Greipel and Michael Rogers) included in the team, especially Greipel.

The German crashed heavily in this year's race and was forced to withdraw.

"After Greipel's mishap at the race this year we are pleased he will be back in South Australia," Turtur said.

"History shows that our race is a great start to Greipel's season.

"In 2008 he took overall victory and this year started with a stage win in the 2009 Tour Down Under and continued his winning form all season, with four stage wins at the Vuelta (Tour of Spain) and a total of 20 victories."

Also included in the Columbia-HTC team are newcomers, Australian Matt Goss and New Zealand's Hayden Roulston.

Goss has switched from Saxo Bank while Roulston has transferred from Cervelo Test Team.

"Hayden will be an asset to the team, being an accomplished track rider having won the silver medal in the mens individual pursuit and a bronze medal in the team pursuit at the 2008 Beijing Olympics," Turtur said.

"The energy and youthfulness of Matthew Goss will add to the Australian contingent already in the team."

More Tour Down Under teams will be named in the coming weeks, including the line-up for Lance Armstrong's Team RadioShack.

Team Columbia-HTC: Andre Greipel (Ger), Michael Rogers (Aus), Bernhard Eisel (Aut), Mark Renshaw (Aus), Matthew Goss (Aus), Marcel Sieberg (Ger) and Hayden Roulston (NZ).
