Cummings can't split Cup trio

It seems everyone believes Bart Cummings will win a 13th Melbourne Cup but the trainer is reluctant to single out which of his three runners he thinks has the best chance.

That's because he has all three primed to the minute for 3pm on Tuesday and if one can't win, another one can.

Viewed is the favourite to repeat his win of last year, Roman Emperor ran second to Viewed in the Caulfield Cup while Allez Wonder finished eighth.

"If his weight doesn't stop him, Viewed is a good chance again," Cummings said.

"It was sad to see Roman Emperor lose the Caulfield Cup but I'm pleased he didn't get a penalty.

"Allez Wonder's mother won a Perth Cup over the two miles (3200m) and has the bloodlines to win the Cup and so does the jockey."

Michelle Payne will ride Allez Wonder as she has at her past two starts, most famously to her Toorak Handicap win making the 24-year-old the first woman to ride a Group One winner for Cummings.

Payne is the youngest of 10 children, eight of whom became jockeys, with her now retired brother Patrick the most successful of the siblings so far.

Although he won many Group One races including a Cox Plate, Patrick did not come close to a Melbourne Cup victory.

It will be the first Cup ride for all three of the Cummings' jockeys with Brad Rawiller to partner Viewed and Hugh Bowman on Roman Emperor.

"There's always a first and these jockeys are intelligent enough to use their own brains," Cummings said.

"I think these blokes are pretty good, and the sheila too."

Being called a sheila or a "pretty little thing" doesn't faze Payne who is more than happy to be riding for the master.

"To be riding in the Cup for Bart Cummings...you can't ask for more," Payne said.

"I'm excited and I think Allez Wonder can get the two miles.

"I won't have her as close as the Caulfield Cup and as long as she's relaxed and I ride her to get the distance, she will."

Bowman would like rain for AJC Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor to show his best.

"He needs the give out of the ground, if it's too firm he can't win," he said.

Wet or dry won't worry Viewed.

"It's great to be in this race on a horse who is proven at the distance and can put himself anywhere," Rawiller said.

"It would cap a great year for me to win the Melbourne Cup."

As well as the Caulfield Cup, Rawiller claimed the Golden Slipper Stakes during the autumn on Phelan Ready.
