A mishap in a sand roll nearly kept Trim out of the entire spring carnival but she recovered quickly enough to win her first black-type race at Flemington.
The three-year-old filly by Lonhro tore rib cartilage in the incident and trainer Peter Snowden said it was touch and go whether she would be ready for Thursday's Listed TCL Electronics Stakes (1200m).
"It happened nine or 10 weeks ago and as soon as she did it was like someone had stuck a spear into her system," he said.
"She fell on the ground like she'd hurt herself badly which is bad enough and those injuries normally take a long time to heal.
"I thought she was no hope of getting to the carnival and this race in particular which we earmarked.
"We wanted to have her going into the race second or third-up but to her credit she's come through it really well and came here without even a barrier trial."
Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Trim ($4.60 fav) made it two wins from four starts and she was runner-up in her other two appearances.
Snowden said the filly would be spelled and set for races up to 1400m in the autumn after her half-length victory over Marquardt ($5.50) with Cinecitta ($7.50) a head away third.
"The main thing is we have to keep her sound because she's got joint issues," the trainer said of the Sheikh Mohammed-owned filly.
McEvoy said Trim travelled a touch keenly but had cover before making her winning run.
"She's bigger and stronger now and has the right attitude," he said.
"There are some nice options for her in the autumn."
